Greenland… One of our personal Nordic destination wedding wedding locations! Adventure Weddings & Elopements in Greenland is the essence of thriving on adventure and left in wonderment. Likewise, very few are brave enough to explore this Arctic tundra. That is to say, sadly this icy country doesn’t get enough attention from the destination wedding industry and frankly it should for many reasons!
Furthermore, this Nordic wedding location is for couples who are truly fearless explorers at heart, cold weather lovers, and have an unquenchable curiosity! Is this you? If so, you can look forward to having a destination wedding or romantic elopement in one of the most mysterious places in the world. Moreover, it’s even said to be in the top 10 mysterious locations to visit in the world! Likely because it is so isolated from the rest of the world. Which means in planning adventure weddings & elopements in Greenland you’ll be the only ones exploring!
Having weddings or elopements in Greenland means you are snuggled within the Arctic Circle and between several bodies of water such as Baffin Bay, Labrador Sea, Greenland Sea, and the Davis Strait… In addition, who can say that they were married between all that? Very few people in the world, we assure you! Fun Fact: Did you know that Greenland is actually part of Denmark, but speak their own language called Eskimo–Aleut (Greenlandic).
Travelling to Greenland is a bit of a process. Firstly, you’ll need to take a flight from your home airport to either Iceland’s International Airport (KEF) or Copenhagen Airport (CPH). Secondly, you’ll need to book a flight onto a smaller airplane (via Air Greenland) that will take you to the area of Greenland you wish to explore. To illustrate, the most popular and touristy location in Greenland to explore is called Ilulissat (airport code JAV). Here you will find easily accessed ice fjords.
In contrast, our favorite and more offbeat area for eloping in Greenland are the East Fjords. To get to the East Fjords of Greenland you’ll need to take a flight to Kulusuk Airport (KUS) and your adventure can begin there! Experiencing adventure weddings & elopements in Greenland, it is best to travel by boat from village to village. Why? Because you don’t just rent a car and drive the entire island like you do in Iceland. To clarify, there are no roads connecting the towns so it is best to have access to a boat, helicopter or fly between.
Finding the perfect Greenland wedding ceremony location that speaks to you is why you traveled so far! So let’s talk about some options you may want to consider as you think about Greenland elopement locations.
