If you’re wanting to spend your wedding day hiking, you can! Because hiking elopements are totally a thing! But in planning a Big Sur wedding you don’t have to hike all day. To illustrate, the majority of the iconic spots from waterfalls to redwoods, to rocky coastline to historical landmarks most locations are under a 30 minute walk one way.

Next, let us tell you a a little background on how Danielle and Aaron chose Big Sur for their adventure wedding… Firstly, these two were originally supposed to be married in May of 2020 in Isle of Skye. However, we all know what happened that year. Secondly, after several iterations of rescheduling their lives move on to building their family. Thirdly, since our Your Adventure Wedding team specializes in crafting custom experience driven wedding adventures throughout the world, the suggestion was raised a transition be entertained.

After all, as new parents and after battling through a pandemic, these two did not want to have their family travel internationally any longer. Therefore, places like the Pacific Northwest and Big Sur became options. But at the end of the day Partington Cove and other locations throughout Big Sur won! Danielle and Aaron began their morning at Carmel Valley Lodge getting ready, meeting our Big Sur wedding photographer, and loading into the car for the days adventure.

Partington Cove Wedding Ceremony

Partington Cove is found within the famous Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. Meanwhile, being married in Partington Cove requires an in advance permit from park services. It’s a bit of a time consuming process with deadlines, so make sure you start early or hire an adventure wedding planner to help you. Also be aware, sometimes they limit specific areas on how many people can be in attendance. For example, in April 2022, they were limiting to 10 or less people and that amount had to include your photographer, video, and celebrant alongside of your guest list, etc.

Furthermore, in the early morning hours of April 20th 2022, the group embarked on the hike to Partington Cove to a secluded ceremony location. They held a short but sweet Big Sur wedding ceremony where they said, “I do,” exchanged rings and sealed the deal with a kiss in celebration!! What a stunning place to get married in California!

Adventuring Together

Once the Partington Cove Big Sur wedding ceremony concluded, it was time to discover the area. The shoreline of Partington Cove is dramatic, rocky, and colorful. Plus do many things beat the vividness of that sparkling ocean?! After, the newlyweds and guests packed up and made their way through the path and into the historic tunnel bridge on their way to continuing exploring.

History buffs rejoice! As the Bixby Creek Bridge is one historical spot that you cannot miss if you’re planning a Big Sur wedding itinerary! In fact, the bridge was built in 1931 and has since then been a staple a some might even say a staple to the picturesque area.
